Suda51, the alias of famed developer Goichi Suda, is a man of his word.
After promising a new gameplay reveal on December 4th, he’s not only given us that, but also confirmed when his next game will release on consoles and PC.
Romeo Is A Dead Man: Suda51 Is Bringing Bloody Time-Travelling Action In 2026
Suda51 is back with Grasshopper Manufacture’s first new IP in five years.
According to a press release, Romeo Is A Dead Man will launch on February 11th, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Suda51 also had a little fun by referencing a certain 2026 game when confirming the February release date.
Now we’ve won our game of chicken against *cough* a certain twice-delayed 2026 release, we can reveal our cards and confirm we never intended to launch in May in the first place.
He also confirmed that the team is currently “warping space-time” as they put their finishing touches on the game.
There are currently no plans to release the game on Nintendo Switch 2, though Suda51 has expressed his desire to release Romeo Is A Dead Man on Nintendo’s newest console.
“We’re in the middle of doing a bunch of tests and stuff basically to see if we can put it on Switch 2,” he said recently. “I personally would love to get it on the Switch 2. I’m hoping it’s going to work out. It just depends on the results of the testing we’re doing.”
Romeo Is A Dead Man Is Grasshopper’s First New IP In A Decade
Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture are no strangers to stylized ultra-violence. It’s something they’ve arguably been known for, thanks to games like Killer7 and the No More Heroes franchise. With Romeo Is A Dead Man, they’re looking to take the graphics and gameplay they’re known for and inject it with a new, original, and completely over-the-top story.
Here’s an updated description of the game to accompany the reveal of a new gameplay trailer.
Snatche
d from the brink of death by his donning of the rad mask “DeadGear”, FBI Space-Time special agent, Romeo Stargazer, sets out to hunt the most wanted fugitives in existence across the multiverse, armed with a heady arsenal of guns and close-combat weapons. And as if being stuck in a strange limbo between life and death as DeadMan and tasked with navigating a shattered space-time continuum isn’t enough, Romeo also has to contend with the sudden disappearance of his mysterious girlfriend, Juliet.
Romeo Is A Dead Man is the third game Grasshopper has self-published, with the previous two being 2019’s Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes and 2021’s No More Heroes III. Those were established IPs, though; Romeo Is A Dead Man is a brand new franchise, even if it looks similar to Suda51’s past work.
With that comes a risk, but Grasshopper believes it’s worth taking, as it leans more into science fiction than any of their past games. Suda51, in an interview with our sister site TheGamer, laid it out perfectly.
“I love Back to the Future, I love Rick and Morty,” he said. “One day, I had this idea where I thought, ‘What if in Back to the Future, Marty died, and Doc had to do something to save him? What would that turn out like?'” He says. “That’s where this game was born from, just this idea that popped into my head one day.”
Suda51 Wants To Create A Sequel To His 2011 Hidden Gem Game
Suda has a great fondness for the characters.
